Question regarding what to do with loose skin...

Hi my name is raine and I am wondering how to tighten up the loose skin that I have due to large weight lost. I was 417 lbs and are currently 290 lbs. I currently work out 5-6 dys a week from 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hrs. I do a mixture on M-W-F of epiliptical and weights with a class of cardio and on my off days I do jump rope, cardio and upper and lower floor workout exercises. I have a pair of bird wing arms now and these flaps of skin in between my legs ....I would love suggestions. I am new to this biggest loser phenomenon. I have noticed many of them do not have flappy arms and legs. And suggestions are more than appreciated.

Welcom to the forums MischiefRN!

First off congratulations on your weight loss. It sounds like you are on the right track.

The contestants on The Biggest Loser still do have their extra skin. This is something that just wont go away without surgery or lots of time. Many of the contestants that you seen with all the extra skin gone are ones that went through the surgery already.

I know thats probably not the answer you were hoping for but thats all I can offer.

I hope you continue to stick around would love to hear updates on your weight loss and maybe you can share some of the methods you are using to reach this goal. Like what exercises, diet, ect.

Wow, Congratulations on your progress. I have a cousin who went through a big weight loss. She's still suffering with saggy skin; however, I know she would much rather have the extra skin hanging around than the extra weight. The only option I've heard her discuss is surgery. I don't know if there's anything else available or not.

Last night was the first time watching the show,,and it struck something in me. How did you get yourself motivated enough to even start exercising. My husband has bought me equipment but i still dont make time for exercising, and get frustrated with myself everymorning because it sinks in that i am overweight.

Lady Moore.......

It's tough to get started, but if you can consistently excersise for 21 days it becomes a habit. (you'll start doing it without even realizing it) It also helps to visualize yourself thin. Whenever it comes to gaol setting I visualize myself already have done it and how good I feel. It really helps alot. Good Luck, I myself am just starting going to the gym.....

That weight loss is AWESOME!!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!

Not sure what to tell you about the skin, but from what everyone is posting I think you are pretty limited, I hope you find something that works for you.

That's inspiring! You are determined and nothing will stop you! I'm really excited for you and feel that the excess skin is a small price to pay.

I have a cousin whose had hers removed but only after she finished reducing, kept it off and her body "stabilized". She said that sometimes when you loose a lot, you loose more in one place -less in another. But even after you stop loosing your measurements are changing and weight loss evens out all over.

It took 3 years to loose 226 lbs, & it took 6 years before she could get surgery to remove the skin. She looks and feels great. She's all toned up now. I'm totally jealous! LOL- It's like she got a new lease on life.
I feel you are on the same track! I wish the best for you!

loose skin

Man, I am just too much of a chicken to get that kind of surgery. I absolutely HATE my arm "wings" but I live with them and try to hide them. I am too embarrassed to wear sleeveless shirts. It kills me sometimes - I mean, I am a cyclist and feel so powerful, proud and awesome when I'm dressed in my cycling clothes and riding. But still, I cannot bring myself to wear a sleeveless top even when it's 100 degrees outside. Isn't that terrible? I lost 70 pounds and have maintained over one year. I still need to get rid of 25-30 pounds. I just don't think my arm flaps will ever go away. Sad sad sad.

Keep up the good work Raine!!

I have the same problem...the dreaded under arm wings...

I don't remember the last time I wore a sleeveless shirt. Probably at least 10 years.

I know there are some exercises you can do that tighten them up a little bit but really no way to get rid of them for good unless you do the surgery.
