I'm with you all. I can't wait til it gets nicer out. We live in a condo right by a bike path. We've lived her two years and I have only walked on the path one time. I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can start walking outside

Ok, this is probably the pot calling the kettle black.... However, in hopes that this MIGHT be of assistance to someone else here goes the possiblity of
sounding like a hypocrate (sp?). Why do we need to wait for the weather to break to go for a walk? Honestly, people go for walks in ALL types of weather ALL year long. I mean, just look at the winter Olympics, it's got to be as cold as can be out there, but they're still out there getting a work out in. Why not invest into a descent pair of hiking boots, warm gloves, hat, coat, what ever it is you think you need and just go?
I keep telling myself every day that I'm going to go for a walk today, yet I keep using the weather as an excuse. Then on my way home I see the father of one of the little girls in my daughter's class he's out jogging in ALL kinds of weather. Well guess who's in shape and who isn't? Like I said, kind of like the pot calling the kettle black, but in all honestly I'm hoping this helps set a lightbulb off in someone's head. The weather doesn't have to be perfect for us to partake in activities.

Once the weather gets nicer, get outside to do some walking. It's a good workout for you and you get to enjoy nature while you do it! If you are able, biking is also great exercise or swimming. Swimming is easy on your joints and works all your muscles.
At home..you could use a chair, place your hands on the top of the back of the chair and do squats. Make sure your knees don't bend over your feet though, keep your knees at a 90 degree angle.
Or...lay on your back on the floor and put your feet up on the couch or a chair and do some ab crunches.

Denise Austin Workout
I went to Walley World last night looking for Taebo Cardio, and they just had the bootcamp 2 disc workout. So instead I bought a Denise Austin DVD, "Burn Fat Fast, Cardio Dance & Sculpt." It was a pretty good workout! Since I am in a weightloss competition, I don't want to do strength training until I am done with the contest. But the warm up, cardio and cool down took about 36 minutes and it was quite a workout. I was sweating when I got done!

I'm lucky, because I do get a lot of hills, and even some trails through the woods, that require actual climbing! Those are my favorite.
I got my 10 year old daughter a new bike for Christmas this year. We've been able to go on 1 bike ride, but I'm looking forward to more. She is excited, because she has always used her brother's hand-me-down bikes before. This new one is definitely hers! It's lavendar! I know I can really feel those bike rides. As I said, lots of hills-- I know it's a much tougher workout than just walking. I love it when I can feel those muscles burn! ( my rear end too, after the first ride of the season! )
But, I know you can't have too many optiions! DVD's are cheaper than a treadmill!
I have never worked out on a tread mill. But I have on an exercise bike. 4 miles on an exercise bike is exhausting. 4 miles outside, is a delight! Is it the same on a treadmill? Do the miles seem to drag on forever? I can walk outside for an hour, and the time flies. Does it creep on a treadmill?

I must say that when I walked on my treadmill it was boring - even watching TV. I would rather walk outdoors or with my videos.

You have to spice up the treadmill, sometimes I watch TV, listen to music or even read when I am walking. Makes the time go by faster. Other times I try to spice it up by running/walking/jogging just to get the blood really pumping. Somebody told me that there is a treadmill DVD that is really helpful.
I also bought a Kickboxing Bootcamp DVD that I really like. I bought Taebo Cardio and it kicked my booty! I cannot move THAT fast yet! I could do all the moves, but they were really truckin' along. lol
My body is still soooo sore, but that is because I worked out a lot of muscles I didn't even know were there-Whew!

How do you read while you walk? I would get dizzy...if I didn't look ahead of me while on the treadmill I would get dizzy. I usually would watch tv or listen to the radio - I just didn't enjoy it as much as I do the videos.

You are SO right - why do we do this? Well...I am happy with doing videos instead of going outdoors in the cold for now. I am still getting my workout in and I feel great at the end of the day.

It works best with a paperback, I just hold one hand out to grab the rails if I start to totter, and then I hold the book close enough to read it while moving. Turning pages can get interesting, but I found that I can get lost in the book and forget how bad my body is hurting.

A friend at work said she got her tread mill for $30.00. I couldn't believe it when she told me. Yes, it was second hand, but still it was a great price considering.
