What Goals Can Do for You
Research shows that people may be more likely to remain with an exercise program long-term if they set some goals. And it's especially helpful for people who are getting back into exercising after a long break or for people exercising for the first time. Goals give you a reason to get out there, get moving, and stick with it.

No sweets anymore

Hi Starlight,
Great questions. Most of them have been answered very thoroughly already, I just wanted to add something on the topic of sweets.

1) Have an alternative. If you are feeling like you MUST have your sweets, then have a frozen low cal treat or whatever you can find that is already portioned and low cal and low fat. My favorite are no sugar added fudge pops. 40 cal each and they really taste good. It's not about denying yourself, it's about healthy alternatives. Or even better, start having fruit as a dessert, or sugar-free jello, etc. Something to satisfy that sweet tooth. Sometimes I just drink hot tea with splenda and that does the trick.

2) As you exercise, your body will crave healthier foods. Your body will be working hard and asking for protein and nutrients more and more. It sounds wierd, but in my experience my tastes really do change when I'm actually putting my body to work. So the cravings should get easier.

I hope these tips help with sweets, just remember those are empty calories and you want to be healthy far more than you want that sweet food.

I think one of the reasons I got up and did it was because I purchased a gym membership at the local rec center which lasts for a year and I'd be damned if I was going to let it go to waste.

Plus, there were a lot of unhealthy things I was doing e.g. smoking cancer sticks, and I had to just re-evaluate the situation and figure out what's most important for my health.

I honestly never looked back.
