Master Cleanser

My friend is somehow trying to concince me that this is ok. but just from the over view it seems to me like you would get really sick. She claims she's going to go on it now but she doesn't follow though with anything so I'm not worried about her, just wondering about opinion. The page says it's not a diet (Then goes back and says it is) but she's wanting to use it as such.

You are very smart to object to this in my opinion. If you ever do decide to anything like this, tlak it over with a doctor first. My question, reading more about this diet, is "WHY"? 10 days of drinking nothing but lemon juice and maple syrup and no food? You'll be getting calories, actually drinking about a pound of sugar a day, but you won't be getting nutrients. This seems a really bad idea if you are exercising especially. I wouldn't be able to last 10 days of this, ugh.

This is more for colon clensing than weight loss. There is no magic diet for weight loss except reasonalbe calories daily and exercise. So simple, yet so hard all at once. Hope I didn't offend anyone, just my view. If you're ever concerned about something like this, go see what you can find posted about the dangers of these diets or pills or whatever it is. Someone has surely posted warnings about potentially hazardous effects of it.

Every thing I point out or someone else or some boards for this point out they have come up with an excuse to how it wouldn't happen. Like if you did it for an extended ammount of time it seems like you would just burn muscle. 'No but the sugar from all the maple syrup is burned.'

She's looking at it from a purely weight loss thing some people on this forum claiming to have lost 40 lbs in a month of doing this. The only thing I can see is those people were in ok shape before. Worked out, ate right then did this and it didn't effect them like I think it would my friend. She's at least 250 lbs and rarely gets in a good work out. I can only see her getting sick, all the sugar going to fat, and it slowing her metabolism.. if she actually went through with it.

Yuck, I'm sorry you can't convince her otherwise. I suppose the only possibility would be to get her hookd onto something else -which would actually help her, like keeping her too distracted by going to the gym etc. Maybe if she won't listen to you she might at least discuss it with a medical doctor first. Health is too serious to just mess with like that. I've read it can do real damage to your kidneys especially, but I'm not a doctor.

I didn't read the whole thing, but I did see that it said it was a cleanse, and not for weight loss. Of course, you're likely to lose weight, if you follow it, but probably not the fat that we all need to lose.
I just can't stand these types of things. They are risky, and I'm quite sure will be of no long term benefit to anyone who does them.
To lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. There are lots of different ways to do that -- I believe the healthiest is to watch caloric intake, by reducing sugar and fat consumption, and to get regular aerobic and strength building exercise. I know it's easier said than done, but I do not believe there's any magic pill, formula, or food that will make this process any easier. I'm sorry that your friend seems to have bought it, hook, line and sinker. And I hope she doesnt' do any serious damage to herself.

The master cleanser is a detox, its not for losing weight purpose.

People think that this type of detox is to lose weight / fat, because they say they lost heaps of weight, but its not. It cleans out the toxins in digestive system which makes you feel lighter and have more energy. Once you break the fast and start eating food, you gain 1/4 to 1/2 of weight you lost.

Plus its not normal flavoured maple syrup that you use on your pancakes, its actually Grade B Maple or Dark Amber syrup, it has all the nutrients that you need and its very expensive to buy.

Ive tried it for 10 days and lost 9kgs = 20lbs approx, then I gained 4kg back on when I started to eat normally with healthy food etc,

So, you can't really say is bad or unhealthy because of the sugar intake and so forth, if the detox didnt work, then why did Stanley Burroughs 'TMC inventor' invented it?

What about the cabbage soup diet? 7 days = 7lbs? Its all the same, cabbage is mostly water, so you arnt losing any weight / fat but water.

she's right

I do the Master cleanse for 3-5 days about 4 times a year, but just to detoxify my system and keep the flu and other viruses at bay. It was never intended for weight loss, but that is a side effect. The first time i did it I dropped 8 lbs in 10 days, but i didn' gain much back since i've gone from a regular diet to a vegan one. If I had gone back to a s.a.d. (standard American diet) I would've probably gained all of that weight back.
