Interesting Pizza Idea

I'm sure this has been done before, but I'd never seen it lol. Necessity is the mother of invention right? (22 year old guy+school+no money=creative eating).

I used a soft tortilla shell, light tomato sauce (salt free), a bit of grated cheese (cheddar), and brown lean ground beef. Pretty simply, I'm sure you've figured it out. Just layer as you like, add whatever ingredients you want (just tried it with mushrooms and of all things, broccoli), and put it in the oven for 5 minutes or so on 400F. Simple, effective, and good (even with the broccoli!).

Just another idea lol!

(PS, why is it now, after 22 years of hating it, am I craving broccoli?!)

LOL, love the pizza idea. You know what I do for pizza? I take a big round portabello mushroom cap and put the toppings on it -tomato sauce, a bit of cheese, olives, herbs, turkey and bake in the oven until the cheese melts. It's really good too.

I laughed at your broccoli comment. You know, when we aren't stuffing ourselves with comfort foods like sugar and oil, and we're working out building up muscles and using up calories -our bodies tell us what foods they NEED for a change. Suddenly things sound yummy because your body is craving those nutrients and it's smarter than we are about eating. Things taste different too when you're really using your body.

Thanks for sharing your recipie, I'll try it sometime when I don't have musrooms sitting around.
~Cheers, Jules (Also a student with no money and no cooking skills)

Jules, your portabello mushroom pizza is almost the same as what I made for my dinner guests on Saturday night--and it was awesome! I'll definitely be doing that again.

Craving healthy foods is a great feeling! We've been eating a lot more salads lately, and now my 14 yo daughter sometimes makes herself a salad for an after school snack. That's definitely a change! For years, she always had cookies. Fortunately, Betsy does not have the least bit of a weight problem! And, although she complains that I'm not keeping adequate junk food around the house lately, she's adjusting very well and making some great choices. Sometimes she goes walking with me. This makes me really happy, to think that my changes in lifestyle might be establishing good patterns for my kid!

I use a whole wheat pita, add 1/2 tsp of olive oil, sliced plum tomatoes, part skim mozzarella, garlic and pizza seasoning, and then any veggies or whatever. I like broccoli and mushrooms..pop it in the toaster oven til the cheese melts...YUMMY
