percentage of calories?

ok, so i know the usda recommends 50% of your calories should come from carbs and 30% from protein and 30% from fats. here is my question....does anyone know what the biggest loser recommends? i've heard 40-40-20 and 40-30-30. thanks for your response! lizzie

I eat 50% carbs
35% protein
15-20% fats

I'm not sure what the book recommends though, sorry I can't help you more.

Missy and others, I would be interested in learning how to get the percentage of protein higher. I don't like a lot of protein foods and I'm lucky if I can make myself eat 20% of my calories in the form of protein. Once I tried an Atkins type diet, but after a few days I couldn't stand the sight of another egg or piece of meat. I do like soy products, but the rest of my family doesn't. Any suggestions? Sue

Hmm, there are lots of things you could try for protein. I'll list some and see what you think.

Egg Whites
Omega 3 Eggs
Low Fat Cottage Cheese
Turkey/Chicken sticks (like a pepperette)
Tuna
Fish
Turkey/Chicken Breast
Low Fat Cheese
Green veggies have protein...green beans, lentils, brocolli
Skim Milk
Low Fat Yogurt
Tofu

Or if you go to a nutrition/supplements store you can buy whey protein powder that you can mix with water or milk as a protein shake.

Good suggestions, Missy. I have been mostly avoiding cheese because I haven't investigated low fat types. I will look into that.
