colon cleansing -- ewwww

I was checking out TBL message board on the NBC site, and came across this thread. I've been seeing informercials on this, and they totally gross me out. I'm not sure if it's the same exact brand as what this link is, but it's basically the same stuff, I think. If you're up for it, check out the picture gallery-- but it's totally disgusting! You've been warned!!!
http://www.drnatura.com
Personally, I think it's all a bunch of crap ( no pun intended). As someone on the other board said, you get these rope-like bowel movements because of the stuff you're drinking. They make it sound like it's all coming out of your colon, but I would agree that it's acually that stuff, that binds with what is already in your colon that makes that.... ugh.... crap come out of you.
I also think it would be very disturbing to have that come out of your body.
The other thing I find disturbing is the pictures they have. It's like the worst public restroom you have ever been in!
Anyway, I've given my opinion. Like most things that promise miraculous results, I think it's all a gimmick to get you to spend money. I doubt it actually does anyone any good. You could get the same results eating a healthy, pure diet. ( also stated on the other board) I really do hate this kind of stuff. False promises to desparate people---- and in some cases, I think whatever they're trying to sell you might do you more harm than good.
But I would be interested to hear what any of you think. If you've tried this, or thought about trying it....how it made you feel, and why you used it , or are thinking about using it.

Gotta admit, I'm not brave enough to go view this... but just eat your fiber and you'll be fine. Yum, celery!

One time when I was right out of high school, I saw a commercial about a diet pill that as soon as you ate the pill would trap and the "bad" things and make you "poop" it right out. Being young and naive I bought it, well it made me "poop" ( I hate that word) But it cause Irritable bowel syndrome. I went to my doctor and I told him what I was taking he told me that if I just ate more fiber I would pretty much get the same reaction. I think people want something that is easy, I hear on the radio all the time about diet pills that make you lose weight and you can eat whatever you want no exercise. Its just somebody elses "get rich" fast.

I agree with Joy. It's probably someone hopping on the weight loss industry bandwagon trying to sell a gimmick to gullable people who think it actually works. There is no quick fix to being overweight...the sooner people realize it takes a healthy nutrition and exercise program with a lot of hard work, the sooner those gimmick markets will be out of business.

If you have seen Colon Cleansing advertised as a weight loss method, then no, that should not be a reason to get it done; weight loss is a by-product of cleansing. It is for colon and digestive health, the fact that you may lose some weight is incidental.

I have had a colon cleanse (4 in all) and from my own personal experience of it, it was wonderful in improving my health.

A short time ago I was diagnosed with an inability to digest proteins and fatty acids. I'd had pneaumonia as a child and apparently this was one of the things the illness left me with. Colon cleansing was recommended to help alleviate my sluggish digestion, it made me feel about 2 tons lighter every time I walked out of the office after having it done. I used to eat Rolaids like they were going out of style but no longer had to after getting a cleanse done.

According to the RN who did my cleanse, at one time colon flushing/enema's were the first thing they would give you upon arrival in hospital.
The RN told me she'd seen impacted crud longer than her arm coming out of people (especially seniors) who were constipated or having trouble going. She also attested to the fact that she'd seen parasites come out of people (URGH!!!) Then went on to educate me on the reality that it is estimated that about half of the American population have a parasite in their bodies at some time. She said the easiest way people got them was from household pets. The number of people who kiss their dogs and inadvertantly pick up a parasire was enormous.

When I was a younger I worked in a centre for seniors and they would suck down prune juice with a vengence every morning hoping it would make them go, the truth is, their colons (along with their arteries) were probably clogged up with all the garbage food they continued to eat.
Eating the standard american diet is pretty bad for you, and matter can become impacted on the walls of your colon, it's similar to your arteries in so much as eating a crappy diet can clog the both of them.

Dr Natura is a decent site and the detox program can really help people with IBS, digestive problems and Candida. If you google colon cleansing, you'll find a world of people out there who practise detoxing and cleansing as ways to stay healthy. I think most people, (especially guys) are repelled by it because its to do with your bottom, but get over it, you need to look at all aspects of how your body functions.
Eating a pure diet rich in whole grains, fruit and veggies is a great way to keep a healthy colon. Lets face it though, we've all eaten junk. If you live in western society you can't get away from eating all sorts of hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup and aspartame etc. Your body needs all the help it can get!
