All about choices

Last night while watching Biggest Loser there was a point when Jillian was talking to one of the girls about her food log... Burger King, chips ect.
My husband and I talked after the show and decided to "kick it up a notch" as Emeril would say.
We have been doing better with our portion sizes, but sometimes the food we choose still doesn't seem like the best choices.
Like yesterday manager here brought in bagels. One of the other girls brought one over to my desk. She was trying to be nice cause she knew I was busy, so I didn;t want to tell her I didn;t want it (which is the choice I should have made). So I took it and cut it in half and imediately through half in the garbage. I did eat the other half and actually felt uncomfortable full after I ate it (cause I really wasn;t hungry in the 1st place). It's all about choices.
My husband's choice this morning was to get up and ride the exercise bike with me (we have 2 bikes side by side). he has to really push himself hard to ride a mile. But he did it and I was really proud of him. That was the choice he made this morning.
What kinds of choices have you made - either negative or positive.
I think it helps to be aware of the choices we are making.

have a great day!
Nicky

Hi Nicky-

Sounds like you & your husband are doing great! Keep up the good work.

You're right, it is all about choices. Somedays it's easier to make the right choice but over time it does get easier.

Just today the girls in the office were talking about lunch. They're ordering from a very good bar-b-que place and I made the choice to get a salad with chicken and ranch on the side. Now, a big ole' bar-b-que sandwich with potato salad & baked beans sounds awesome but I know I would feel miserable after eating it and it wont' do a thing to help my weight loss goal!

Talking Great Topic

I have to start this out with a smile b/c I have made some really good choices over the past week. I have chosen water over pop and tea...I have chosen to walk every day...I have also chosen to stop snacking after 7pm each night. I'm just so excited b/c I have been doing such a wonderful job - I go to bed each night smiling.

My husband didn't work today so I went for my walk this morning after I got the two older kids on the bus...which was 7am. I was out the door walking by 7:15 am and I didn't just do one mile - I walked two miles. I have had 40 ounces of water and it is only noon - my son and I have doc appointments today so we have been out - I took him to McD's and he had his lunch - I ordered a glass of ice water. My son tried to give me some fries b/c they were really soft - I told him "No...I can't eat that." He wondered why and I reminded him that I am trying to lose weight. For me to pass up McD's fries is amazing!

I think the best choice I made recently is to really seek some support on this weight loss journey. The last one was a disaster...after losing 129 pounds I just crashed and gained almost all of it back. I also decided to lighten up. I am extremely "anal" and that gets me in so much trouble. I gotta loosen the reigns just a little. Easing back into it rather than going full force was a great choice also. In October I started with exercising only 1 day a week. Each month I added 1 day and now I am up to 4x/wk. I will eventually add a 5th day and stop there. In the past I was exercising 7 days/wk. I started working on the food part in January. Deciding you know yourself best when making choices about this lifestyle change is important.

I am doing the same thing - I am taking it slowly. My first week I walked one mile a day - now that my second week has started I started walking 2 miles. I don't want to burn myself out too early in this journey.

Keep it up!

for the past three days I have made 3 poor choices in eating cookies and cake!!!!! That is so unlike me normally!!!!! Generally I don't buy the stuff because I know if I do I'll eat it. Now I admit, I'll buy cookies, but I know they're for the kids lunches and for the most part I tend to leave them alone. Now, cake???? that's a whole other subject...

I totally agree with you. It is all about choices and sometimes they are hard choices at first. But when I make the right one I feel sooooo proud of myself. My choices that I deal with is I am a bartender and I have 3 dayshifts (also 2 nights but I am to busy to worry about food) and I get really bored as it is always slow during the day. And being a bar we have bar food deep fat fried everything and burgers. Well we do have low fat ham that I can make into a sandwich but what I have been doing is bringing a lean cuisine meal and a snack that I can have and as long as I bring it i do really well. The other day I forgot it and it was a challenge all day but I made it and didn't go over my weight watchers points!!! The good thing about working there is when it is busy I get a workout without even thinking about it and it can last for hours lol.
