calcium

I love dairy, and am an especially big fan of the low fat yogurts. What do you guys know about the claims that 3 or more serving of lowfat dairy products a day will help you lose weight? I love the idea -- would love it to be true!
I'm very careful that I don't eat the 'full fat' versions of anything. I honestly don't think I could choke down a glass of whole milk!
But, I am getting my calcium -- probably not 3 servings a day, every day, but pretty close. Calcium is important to me for many reasons. I know the supplements I take are NOT supposed to help with weight loss. I also believe that eating the 'real thing' is always better than taking a pill. So I try to eat that dairy -- low fat or no fat-- as much as possible.
Do you think there is any truth to these claims?

I am only allowed one dairy serving a day (complete BS). So I have 8 oz of the Breyer's Probiotic Yogurt. (Yum). I think I am getting ripped off in the calcium department; so I also take 2 pills a day. I am also going to start taking a multivitamin; most likely Centrum. Although I used to eat so much cheese pizza, I probably have enough calcium to build bones in 10 bodies.

I have heard about the 3 a day thing; but I am not sure how true it is. Obviously it doesnt mean 3 full fat yogurts a day or 3 ice cream sundaes. Fun to think about though..

I'm not sure it's true either. My trainer told me not to eat a lot of dairy, but he is really anal when it comes to things high in fat content. Usually for dairy I just have 1 cup of skim milk, 1 cup frozen yogurt and maybe a cup of low fat yogurt during the day. I definately cannot eat cheese of any kind, because it's so high in fat, even the low fat stuff gets addicting to me. I have always had problems eating cheese in moderation, so I decided to just stay away from it altogether. I don't imagine that having 3 servings of dairy every day is going to hurt you though

I thought I was getting enough calcium because I drink milk and eat some dairy products every day. But when I started to look into it a bit, I found out that I wasn't getting enough and so I'm taking a calcium supplement in addition to eating some lowfat dairy. One thing I've learned is that your body can't use the calcium unless you are also getting magnesium. So I chose a supplement that has both calcium and magnesium in it. I'm also taking a fish oil supplement and photonutrients. In addition to losing weight, I need to improve my overall health because I've had problems with chronic fatigue and a compromised immune system.
