On Monday night NBC aired their weight loss themed American Gladiators Show. I was super psyched to see what these 4 contenders could accomplish after losing so much weight. The men alone had managed to shed 165 pounds. Shawn (Red) dropped 100 lbs and James (Blue) lost 65 lbs. But there was something strange about the contender in the blue and I couldn't put my finger on it. To make a long story short, he knocked Wolf on his tail during Powerball and again on Hang Tough. He defeated Toa in Joust and again in Snapback. He was unstoppable. He tackled the Eliminator and went on to earn a spot in the semi-finals. It wasn't until the next day when I realized why he was familiar to me. He used to play football for the Kent State University Golden Flashes. How did I come to know him? I was one of the team charter drivers for summer camp and hotel runs for a few years and I do remember him being on my bus.

Below is an article written on his amazing story since leaving the Flashes behind and enduring brain surgery. I wish him and his family nothing but the best and hope he makes it all the way. He won the audience over when he told Hulk Hogan that he didn't want his 2 young boys to grow up and say, "I wanna be like Mike." Instead they will say, "I wanna be like my father!" His sportsmanship with both his fellow competitor as well as the seasoned gladiators was wonderful to see.

All 4 of these contestants overcame massive odds to compete on the show. I am sure many viewers have been both touched and inspired by their stories and what they have achieved. I know I have. Best of luck James!
