Recap: Episode 12
Jillian is very emotional over losing Brittney. Kelly is the only original Black team member, since Ali has decided to keep her Pink shirt to honor her mother. The men are only taking out the competition. In other words; the women.
Bob is relieved to see Jay, but he is concerned that his weight loss numbers are down. Jay only lost 3 pounds in the previous week's weigh in and he's determined to change his routine. Bob tries to discuss the importance of carbs and calories to his team. They can't cut out carbs if they are going to be working out as hard as he wants them to be working out. Later, Bob is seen quizzing Jay and Mark on what they had eaten that day. Both men need each and every calorie they are given. Cutting carbs won't help come scale time.
Allison shows up and asks to see the contestants back in the elimination room. I don't think I have ever seen so many pale faces in one place. Ali is understandably nervous because the last time everyone was called in prematurely, she and her mother (Bette Sue) were sent packing.
Joining Allison at the table is a large silver tray similar to the ones used in the elimination rounds. But this is different; nobody is going home just yet. There is going to be a pop quiz and a reward for the winner. The contestants are playing for a prize hidden under the serving tray. They will be asked a series of questions, and must write down their response. A correct answer will get them to the next question. A wrong answer will get them disqualified. The last person standing will win the prize. All Allison will tell them is that this prize is something they all really want. I will post the correct answers at the end of the recap for those of you who want to play.
Question 1: How many calories do you need to burn 1 pound?
Question 2: How much weight had Curtis lost when he came back to the campus a few weeks ago?
Question 3: How many calories are in a cup of Fat Free Strawberry Yogurt?
Here are the contestants score sheets...
Kelly: Correct, Wrong
Ali: Correct, Wrong
Dan: Correct, correct, correct
Mark: Correct, wrong
Roger: Correct, correct, wrong
Jay: Correct, correct, wrong
Dan comes out the winner. So what did he win?? A huge hunk of frosted chocolate cake. His reply was priceless..."thank you?!" Allison tells him that it is his cake and he can do with it whatever he chooses, but she suggests that he bring it to the challenge untouched. If it's incomplete, it would be useless. This beautiful piece of sweetness is exactly 600 calories. So now Dan has become the running joke of the house because it seems that he has, "adopted this piece of cake." Dan has decided that his cake is, "No longer a food item, but a pet." He really doesn't trust anyone in the house so everywhere that Dan went, the cake was sure to follow. Dan brings his cake to the gym and it drives Bob insane. There is Dan running on the treadmill with his beloved cake sitting on a stool right next to him. Bob walks over and takes the cake tray and puts it on a treadmill. Now that's what you call putting your food to work for you!
Bob's goal with his workouts is trying to get under his team's skin. Mark gets highly agitated. "When they can't go any farther, I'm going to expect a little bit more. It makes them stronger."
Kelly is in the kitchen while the guys are making dinner. Mark asked her if she wanted to eat with them (after the fact). Mark said he had forgotten to ask if she had wanted to join them. They are such a tight unit that they never really thought about anyone else. In the future she will join them, but she is not offended that she was alone that night. Kelly realizes that she is alone and doesn't have any alliances. Dan doesn't seem to show any remorse because, "Her team played the game and now she's alone."
Meanwhile, Jillian is beating up Ali at the gym.
Mark, Jay, and Dan decide to go outside for a night run. Roger comes after them to say that Dan's cake is gone, and he flips out. Storming back into the house in search of the women, it appears that Dan is out for blood. On one of the beds is a ransom note:
"Dan, I know the location of your precious cake."
It is signed, Black Team Survivor Kelly.
Dan is now convinced that Kelly took his cake and continues looking for her. Roger mentions that she was going to take a shower. Dan enters her room (with the camera men not far behind) even though Mark says not to. She doesn't know anything about it. He doesn't believe her and so he goes off looking for Ali who is now in the kitchen. After hearing the news, she starts laughing and looking rather guilty. By this time, Kelly is out of the shower and joins everyone in the kitchen. Dan re-reads the note. Roger asks Kelly if she did take it, where would she have hid it. Kelly answers the dishwasher since he never does his dishes and he'd never look there. Ali suggests the trash can or where the trash bags are. Dan finds his cake in the laundry room. As Kelly pointed out, "The smartest person in the house shouldn't have let his cake out of his sight." Previously Dan had been bragging in confession that he was the smartest person in the house. So who was the contestant with the sticky fingers? I personally thought Kelly and Ali were working together. But it was Roger....who claims he did it to teach him a lesson. I have to wonder if there was other motivation behind it? Dan is shocked and they all have a good laugh. Lesson learned.
Kelly and Ali are given a gift basket from Jillian for completing a tough workout. Included are bags of Orville Redenbacher Smartpop Popcorn. Each bag is only 100 calories. The girls decide to share with the guys and they enjoy a movie. This popcorn comes in Butter and Kettle Corn flavors.
The Challenge:
The contestants are taken to a huge sports arena. The electronic menus have their names and pictures featured on them and the contestants are in awe. In the center are 6 tables each with a person's name on it. The idea here is that the food served at sporting events etc. is junk. So here comes another endurance challenge combined with calorie counting knowledge. At the top of the arena stairs are food vendors filled with typical event food. Included in this list are: French fries, popcorn, pizza, Ice Cream pints, pretzels, hot dogs, peanuts, and cotten candy. The contestants will have 20 minutes to run up to the various stands and grab one food item per trip. They will come back to the floor and put the food on anyone's table other than their own. Whoever has the fewest calories on their table will win $10,000. But there is still one piece of unfinished business to attend to....and that comes in the form of a piece of chocolate cake with pink flowers. Ali tells Dan that he can put the cake on anyone's table and it will add 600 cals to their total. Dan places the cake on Kelly's table. The men gather to talk strategy. They want to be clear on their direction. The last time there was a similar challenge, Mark blew up at Jay and it almost got him tossed out of the house because people took exception to it. Ali is going to play it, "Even Steven." Kelly thinks she knows what has the most calories but settles for the two that are the closest to get to. Slow and steady could win the race right? History is bound to repeat itself, especially when the women are outnumbered. The men aren't taking the challenge seriously and focus on annialiating the women. Not only that, but Dan, Roger, and Jay are MUNCHING while running. Dan claims he needs the carbs to fuel his workout. (????) Ali is totally disgusted and throws even steven out the window. But the joke is on the men instead. The ice cream is revealed to be the highest calorie food out there. Here are the final table counts.....
Kelly: 15,061
Ali: 14,327
Dan: 5,736
Mark: 5,612
Roger: 4,895
Jay: 4,480 Winner by 480 calories (1 Ice Cream)
