pushups won't really do anything in terms of overall weight loss...it will strengthen your chest muscles...but in terms of fat loss you'll want to incorporate some kind of cardio like running or walking on a treadmill or using ellipticals, stationary bike etc...aerobics. Lifting weights will help you tone those muscles...the more muscle you have on your body, the faster you can burn fat. It's good to do a combo of both cardio and weights. Doing push ups and situps are good as long as you are doing something cardio oriented with it.

Also....food is the #1 thing you should make a change to...exercise comes second to cleaning up your diet.
