My husband and I take the practical route too. Buy something we need for the house -- or can all enjoy... whatever....
It's ok. I don't get upset about it. He does surprise me once in awhile, and that's nice. I'm even to the point where I joke with him, when those jewelry commercials come on... "It's ok honey, you don't have to get me any diamonds this year." Like that thought ever crossed his mind! lol
But some year I bet he does surprise me with something nice.
As for now, I buy what I want, and what I like, within reason. I really don't need or want much anyway. It's a system that works for us.
