When I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 12 years old they put us through exstensive lessons on how to take care of my new needs. One of the main points they stressed was aspartame... since I was no longer able to indulge in a regular sugary treat, aspartame is the most highly used alternative in suger free anything really... and at that time (9 years ago now) they told me the SAFE amount of aspartame to consume, without experienceing its harmful side effects, in one 24 hour period was as much as 12 cans of diet pop. Obviously this is excessive and I would MAYBE have 1 can of diet pop in a day if that... I don't know how true this holds to todays studies. Just thought I would throw it out there though. I personally don't like the stuff, it always makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable.
