The food consists of macronutrients like proteins, carbohydrates and fat; minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, selenium and chromium; vitamins and fibers. Proteins are essential for repair and growth of the body. Fat is required for formation of cell membranes, used as energy source and excess fat is stored to use it in case of inadequate food. Carbohydrates are broken down to glucose and fructose which are used by muscles as energy source. Minerals are essential for various cellular activities. Fibers are important in lowering cholesterol and vitamins are required for good health.
